Jesus cares about your soul … I don’t. I can already hear it: EDDIE! how can you be so mean?!
I’m not mean, and it isn’t that I don’t actually care. But,
I have to care about my own soul and that of my wife and kids before I can even
begin to consider yours. What I’m saying
is that it’s up to you to wonder and worry about your soul. I believe that faith in Jesus saves our
souls from hell. I’d like for you to
believe that, too, and so would He … but neither He nor I can force you to into
faith in Him. That isn’t how it
works. It is a personal choice that you
have the privilege to make.I can’t save your soul from hell, only accepting Jesus into your heart can accomplish that. I’ve made my choice, and would like for every living soul to make that same choice, too. But I know that millions of people will not. How do I know this? Because I’ve see it … and because the bible tells me so.
Some people quite simply don’t believe that Jesus is who Christians say that He is. Those people are usually from non-Christian religions, but not always … there are people that have left Christianity for one reason or another that no longer believe in Jesus and have rejected Him completely. Then, of course, there’s the agnostics and atheists that do not believe in God, let alone have a faith in Jesus.
I remember a conversation I had with a nonbeliever. She claimed to be a spiritual person and that
she believed in God, but that Jesus was just a man like me. She also said that there was neither a heaven
nor a hell. Once in conversation she
asked, “why do you condemn me to hell?”
I remember saying that it isn’t me that is condemning her, that she and God
that are making that decision. I also asked
her why it bothered her if she doesn’t believe that hell even exists?
I’m not saying that all non-believers are bad people. In fact, I know a few that I like a whole lot
more than some Christians I know. I pray
for them in silence here at home (I just said a little prayer for them right
now), that they will at some point in their lives give Jesus a chance or even a
second shot. But if they don’t, I guess
they will have some satisfaction in being the nicest person in hell.
If you don’t believe that there is a heaven or a hell, then
you don’t need salvation. As for me, I’m
not willing to gamble with my soul or that of my little family’s either. I find faith in Jesus simple, logical, and
comforting. I also find it rewarding, humbling, and
burdening. Accepting Jesus was an easy choice to make
when I was 6yrs old, but following His lead hasn’t been. I mess up, screw up, give in to sin, and sin
again. But I never give up. I
always come back to Jesus.
There you have it.
Pass it along if you like or let me know if I don’t have a clue.
Eddie
