EVIL


I haven’t written a blog in a long time, but this week has brought me to my knees. 
A couple of days ago a gunman entered a mall in Oregon and killed two people.  In Michigan, a union mob attacked defenseless people simply because they had a difference of opinion.  I think when things like that happen, it is because evil has been let out on the loose.
The mass killing of children in Connecticut was an act of pure evil, there’s no other explanation for it.  Whenever someone goes on a killing spree it’s an act of evil, but when children are added to the mix, evil doesn’t even begin to adequately describe it.
Americans were horrified with the news of the movie theater rampage that took place in Colorado this past summer.  In an act of evil, a gunman shot and killed innocent men, women, and children for no apparent reason.  I’m sure we will eventually find out what motivated James Holmes, but I will always be convinced that the main reason he did it is because he gave in to evil. 
On Friday Adam Lanza killed twenty children, his mother, five adults and himself.  Why he did it hasn’t been determined yet, but I believe that he, too, gave in to evil.
I also believe that the mob attack in Michigan was caused because a large group of people decided to act as one unit and gave in to evil.  I’ve heard it said “that the only way for evil to triumph, is for good people to stand by and do nothing”.  So what can good people do to stop evil deeds from happening?  First we have to admit that evil exists and that evil has an enemy:  Good.  Good triumphs over evil every time.  It’s time for good to be let loose. 
It used to be said that the reason America is great, is because America is good … “I sought for the greatness and genius of America in her commodious harbors and her ample rivers - and it was not there . . . in her fertile fields and boundless forests and it was not there . . . in her rich mines and her vast world commerce - and it was not there . . . in her democratic Congress and her matchless Constitution - and it was not there. Not until I went into the churches of America and heard her pulpits flame with righteousness did I understand the secret of her genius and power. America is great because she is good, and if America ever ceases to be good, she will cease to be great”…source unknown.  Good does not, cannot, and will not give in to evil…but good doesn’t triumph without help.  Good must first find a home to work out of, and the best home for it is in the hearts and minds of “We the people”.

THE FESTERING PROBLEM

I recently saw the movie 2016: Obama’s America. In the movie, Dinesh D’Souza interviews one of Barrack Obama Sr.’s old friends. He is a newsman, in the interview he said that people like him and Barrack Obama Sr. were educated in the U.S. He said (not quoting) that even though they were educated here, when they returned to their home country they went back even more leftist and anti-colonial than they were before. That’s chilling.

I have, for a long time, considered our colleges and universities as breeding grounds for anti-Americanism … incubators for socialism, communism, and radicalism. We already know that our colleges and universities are filled with liberal professors, but that’s not the end of it. It’s become clear to me that there are a whole lot of professors teaching on college campuses that are full-fledged communists. There’s also a lot of hate-filled racists, atheists, agnostics, and blame-America-first activists. And that, I think, is at least one of the root causes for the decline of the United States.

Why do I say this? Here is a very short list of professors that I’ve become aware of in just the last few years.

• Ward Churchill – Anti-American – Ethnic liar - Plagiarist

• Bill Ayers – Communist – Domestic Terrorist

• Bernadine Dohrn – Ayers’ wife – Domestic Terrorist

• Angela Davis- Racist Black Panther

• Saul Alinsky – Radical – Community organizer

And I’ll bet there’s a whole bunch more. How is it that people like them are taken seriously? And why is that colleges welcome them to become professors? Can anyone answer that? I can’t. With people like them teaching in our colleges, it’s no wonder so many of us think poorly of our country. With friends like these, who needs enemies?

When you have people like them turning American citizens against their own country, is it any wonder that foreign students can be turned even more so? … just as Barrack Obama Sr. and his friend were in the 1960’s.

These professors speak of the collective good. They play on peoples hopes and fears and promise them that their ideologies will deliver them freedom, peace, and tranquility, when all the while they know that it isn’t so. Why is that? … because what they really seek is power. Those are the very tactics of Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Castro, and now Barack Obama.

Leftist’s ideas never bear good fruit. They always end in more controls rather than freedom. Rights and liberties are trampled upon and the masses are considered a nuisance (or at best a resource to be exploited).

Of all of the unspoken problems facing the United States, the festering problem of anti-American, anti-capitalist, anti-colonial professors teaching today is one that can’t be ignored any longer.

CONSTRUCTION TAKES TIME … DESTRUCTION HAPPENS IN AN INSTANT

“Construction takes time, destruction happens in an instant”, is a saying that I’ve come up with. Most of my working life I have spent in the construction industry. When I was a kid in high school I worked as construction labor, and then later in my Junior and Senior years I worked as an electrician’s helper. Over the years I’ve tried other lines of work but the electrical trade and construction have always been what I’ve fallen back on.

You know it takes about 3 months to build the typical track home … sometimes more, sometimes less, but on average it’s about a 90 day deal. Most minor to medium commercial construction projects take around a year to build. Sure, there are some projects that are built in much less time than that, but I’m speaking in general here. The World Trade Center took six years to build and the Soviet Union 3/4th of a century.

I’m sure you’ve seen a house demolished, or video of a high rise building imploded, and we will never forget the images of the World Trade Center collapsing … not once but twice. In my line of work I’ve seen houses demolished in minutes. I’ve seen commercial buildings taken down in less than a day. The World Trade Center Towers came down very shortly after the planes crashed into them. If you think about it, even the USSR was gone in an instant, too.

I’m a little over 50 years old, and in the last 20 years I’ve seen our country and our world change. In some cases it’s been for the better in others for the worse. I think since 9-11 history will say that we went through some formative years … but will they call them transformative, reformative, or destructive? I don’t know, I suspect that they’ll be considered all of that and more.

Since the early 1990’s there’s been an active campaign to change how we think and feel about a lot of things. Whether it be on social, moral, political, cultural, or religious topics. As I said before, construction takes time destruction happens in an instant. Things that we Americans have taken for granted are under attack and targeted for destruction. For example, the 1st and 2nd amendments are under direct assault. The Bill of Rights has been in place for over two centuries, but the two best know amendments, the 1st and 2nd amendments, may very well be destroyed by people both from within and from outside our government.

Earlier this year religion came under attack by the federal government. The attack was aimed at the Catholic church in direct violation of the 1st amendment. I won’t go into the details of it, but you will recall it was centered around the unpopular healthcare law and birth control.

The 2nd amendment has been under constant attack ever since the Waco massacre that was caused by the federal government. And then of course it always comes under further attack whenever guns are used by evil people in a violent shooting rampage. And we’ve witnessed our right to bear arms come under attack when a teenage boy recently was shot and killed in Florida by a man that was carrying a gun … that man had a license to carry a concealed firearm.

If Americans aren’t careful, we will soon see the 1st and 2nd amendments destroyed right in front of our unwatchful eyes….and they’ll be gone in an instant.

But what is troubling me most these days is the constant attack that traditional marriage has come under. Not that long ago if anyone suggested that marriage between two people of the same sex would ever be considered equal to traditional marriage you’d have been laughed out of the room. No one would have taken that thought seriously. Some people would have said that thought was so out of hand that it wasn’t worth discussing.

Now, not only is that topic being discussed, but in some states same sex marriage has been legalized. In California even though the people of the state voted to define marriage as being between one man and one woman, the will of the people was over turned by the court. The will of the people was disregarded and now same sex marriages are taking place in California.

Today we hear of people and companies being assaulted for daring to utter that fact that they support traditional marriage. I can’t believe it myself, that I even have to use the term “traditional marriage”. I don’t think a change like this is good for a country whose motto is “In God We Trust”.

If marriage is to be redefined to include same gender couples then where else shall marriage go? Should plural marriages be deem equal to traditional marriages? Shall marriages between blood relatives be recognized, will it be OK for mothers to marry their sons? Fathers to marry daughters, brothers marring sisters? If that sounds farfetched to you, it shouldn’t … after all, just a few months ago same sex marriages weren’t recognized anywhere within the USA. Now if you dare to oppose same sex marriage you’re liable to be accused of hate speech, or a hate crime….or worse yet a “thought hate crime”!

If marriage is refined to include anything but the joining of a man and a woman together then marriage will have been destroyed….in an instant.

I’ll leave you with this passage from the bible…Romans Chapter 1:20-32 (NIV)

21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.


26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.


28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

So I’ll ask you…do you approve?

American Liberalism

I’ve been thinking about American Liberalism, or at least how I perceive it to be. The American liberalism of today isn’t the type of liberalism that set this nation free from tyranny; it is quite the opposite. Today’s form of liberalism is leading us back into tyranny.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. That my friends is a liberal statement … it was a radical statement. And yes, we all know that when the Declaration of Independence was written that not everyone was treated equally.

But at the time of our country’s beginning the founders weren’t writing documents that were meant to simply address the problems of the day; they were building a new nation … one that would be radically different than any that had existed before. They were building a “more perfect union”.

The preamble of the our constitution read as such, “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America”. “To secure the blessings of liberty” … what does that mean? I believe that phrase was written into the constitution to declare that government must protect our liberties and not damage them.

It wasn’t written into the constitution so that we can take “liberties”. It wasn’t written so that government would have the “liberty” to do as it pleases, or to take “liberties” with our religious beliefs, or the spend our money “liberally”. Nor was it written into the constitution so that our courts and legislatures could take “liberties” with our traditions and principles. It was written into the constitution to remind us that government cannot provide us liberty “we the people” do.

I view today’s liberalism as primarily a movement toward permissiveness. It disguises itself in the traditional ideals of freedom and liberty, but betrays itself in saying that it defends them when in fact it does not. American liberalism has always (up until recently) been founded on virtue, fairness, kindness, and equality … it was founded on what is right.

Liberalism has help bring about the end of many things that have been wrong with the United States. And yes, it has helped us to become “a more perfect union”. Liberalism helped to strengthen our moral and ethical foundation, and move us to greater freedom than we had ever imagined possible. However, it wasn’t based on the extreme that it is today.

Today’s liberal is almost reluctant to claim the title. Instead they call themselves, progressives, or free thinkers, or non-conformists. When what they really support is permissiveness. They claim that they support personal freedoms, while at the same time they avoid personal responsibility. They claim that they support freedom of choice … so long as the choice is one that they approve of. They claim they support the right of people who love one another should be able to marry one another, while they themselves very often avoid marriage all together … while at the same time they support the perversion of marriage that is same-sex marriage. They claim that they support childrens’ rights yet they support the killing of babies before they are born. They will even state that aborting an unwanted pregnancy is somehow “the right thing to do”.

No, what is known as liberalism today is not at all what American Liberalism has ever been about.

You Didn’t Raise An Eyebrow

In the last few weeks another one of our Constitutionally protected rights was attacked and wounded. President Obama forced a government mandate on religious institutions and you didn’t even raise eyebrow … a lot of you didn’t even notice. Those of us that did notice were shocked and amazed; not at the actions of the President that’s nothing new … but at the lack of a reaction from the press and the public and that so many Americans seemed to be completely indifferent to it.

When President Obama mandated that Catholic institutions must provide birth control to women, even though the faith prohibits it, he attacked not only the church, he attacked the second amendment. He also attack capitalism, free enterprise, private practice, and freedom of choice, as well.

How did he attack freedom of choice? Simple, when anyone is forced to provide a product or benefit even though it goes against their morals, religious beliefs, or their financial best interest, etc., then their freedom of choice has been attacked.

How did he attack private practice? Businesses provide benefits to employees not out of obligation, but as an incentive. They offer these incentives as a reward to retain good employees and as inducement to attract and recruit new employees. If a private enterprise is forced by government to provide employer benefits under penalty of law, then private practice has been attacked.

How did he attack free enterprise? Our free enterprise system allows businesses and workers to negotiate for themselves in the market, in order for them to have freedom to pursue their interest in the best way possible for themselves, and their business. Free enterprise allows people to go into business for themselves or to work for someone voluntarily. Since there isn’t anything voluntary about Obama’s latest mandate, then free enterprise has been attacked.

How did he attack capitalism? Our capitalist economy is based on private ownership of production and business. It is also dependent on a free market. Our free market determines what our wants and needs are … not government. In capitalism, businesses are driven to earn profits based off of free markets. When government intervenes to create a false market (mandates) then capitalism and the free market has been attacked.

How is it an attack on the first amendment? The first amendment states that “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,;”. President Obama has clearly ignored the clause that forbids prohibiting “the free exercise thereof” … when government does that, then the first amendment has been attacked. Attacked by the very government that the first amendment was written to protect us from.

If you are a Catholic you should be outraged, even if you disagree with the church’s stance on birth control. That is a debate meant for the church and it’s followers … it is not a debate to be held between the Catholic Church and the US Government. If you are a Christians you should be concerned. If you belong to any religious faith you should be equally as concerned too. When government attacks one faith, it attacks them all.

But it doesn’t stop there. If you are a business owner you should be angry that government, through your elected officials, has decided that you don’t have a voice or a choice in selecting what your healthcare policies will or will not cover. As an employee you should be angry that the government has just jeopardized your healthcare coverage, as more and more employers may eliminate coverage altogether … just as Catholic organizations are now considering. After all, the healthcare law requires you to obtain health insurance whether or not your employer provides it to you or not.

The healthcare law is one founded in tyranny and despotism. I have always said that I thought Barrack and Michelle Obama spoke and behaved like would-be dictators. Attacking the Catholic Church in this cruel and confrontational way illustrates that better than anything I could ever hope to do.

Heaven Is For Real

That’s the title of a book I just read. The book is about a little boy who has an out-of-body experience that takes him to heaven and back. I have always believed that heaven is for real, but now I feel like I know a little more about it. I won’t go into the details of the book or provide you with a book report, I will only tell you how reading the book has effected me.

First, as a Dad, it reinforced the love that I have for my children and it encourages me to know that Jesus loves them just as much I do (hesitantly, I’ll add -- if not more). It also reinforced my belief in prayer and that God really does listen to us … and it reinforced my belief that believers of Christ will once again reunite in heaven and that Jesus truly is who the Bible says He is. But above all of that it showed me just how wonderful our God is.

But that isn’t to say that the book didn’t force me to look at the reality of life. You know that old saying, “bad things happen to good people” … well, in this story, that is exactly what happens. Much too often we take things for granted. We go to bed at night assured that tomorrow will come. Guess what? … for a lot of us, tomorrow doesn’t come. We are secure in our belief that nothing bad will happen today, but then something does. We fall under a false spell of “those things only happen to other people” when in reality “those things” can happen to anyone at any time.

What are those things? They’re the tragic, horrible, unbelievable, terrible, and the unexpected things life throws your way … you fill in the specifics. But they do happen, and at some point they could happen to you and me. The good thing is that Jesus knows that they will, and He is there to help us get beyond them. Why? … because He’s been there, too. I cannot think of anyone that matches the “bad things happen to good people” description any better than He does.

I will share this tidbit from the book that hit me from out of nowhere. While Colton (the boy who the book is written about) was in heaven, he met his sister. You’re probably wondering if he had a sister that died … no, he didn’t. Colton met a sister he never knew existed. In fact, he met an older sister that was never born. That’s right, a sister that was never born. You see, before Colton was born, his mother had a miscarriage and lost a baby. In fact she did not know that whether or not if she was carrying a boy or a girl at the time. So, the little girl Colton met was that child. Now up until the moment I read that, I hadn’t thought about where unborn babies go. I guess I thought that they just didn’t go anywhere. Maybe I believed they didn’t have a soul since they never breathed a breath of air. Honestly, I don’t know what I believed. It hit me like a lighting bolt! That baby, even though she was never born, had a soul while she was in her mother’s womb! A living, recognizable soul to God. A soul so precious that he’d already prepared a place for her in heaven…..WOW!

If you want to know the whole story you will have to read the book.

Here are a couple of questions I have for you. If God recognizes an unborn child as a having a soul, shouldn’t we? If He has a place prepared for babies that were miscarried, don’t you think He has a place for those that have been killed, murdered, and aborted? I say yes He does. But I’ll admit that, prior to reading “Heaven Is For Real”, I’d never considered that before.

I believe that life begins at conception and I believe that babies in the womb should be considered human beings. And now I believe that they also have a soul … and a soul, after all, is the essence of life.

I think this book is worth your reading. Whether you believe in heaven or not, whether you’re from a Christian faith or not, because it is good … and we all can use a little more goodness in our lives.
