HAPPY NEW YEAR?

I’ve written a couple of times about how I believe that 2011 will be a strange year. Maybe I should say that it will very likely be a year to remember … just as 2001, 1968, 1941, and 1776 are all years which standout in history. In each of those years, peoples’ perceptions of each other, their countries, and the world were significantly changed forever. I think 2011 will become one of those years.

January 2011 hasn’t even ended and we’ve seen historical incidents take place here in the U.S. and around the world. Suicide bombings have taken place in Russia and Egypt. A terrible shooting in Arizona was turned into a political spectacle that will carry on through out the rest of this year as one political faction uses the tragedy to vilify the other. Europe is reeling in a financial quagmire and the nations of the Middle East are in turmoil … not just in Egypt, but everywhere … Israel, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, etc., are all in distress in one way or another.

Tensions are high in the Middle East and no one is safe. Muslims are angry at their governments, but they are angry at the United States as well. The extremists point to our nation and to Israel as the root of all evil … never mind that Muslims are being and have been oppressed primarily by other Muslims. Be it Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Iran, or Hosni Mubarak of Egypt, you name the Middle Eastern dictatorship and you will find a Muslim in charge … not a Jew or an American.

Some will say that it is the United States that has kept these dictators in place … that is only partially true. Every nation, including those in the Middle East, has its own political ruling class … and they are who are responsible for the government. The nations of the Middle East are ruled by way of a monarchy or a dictatorship. There is only one nation in the region that has a functioning track record as a democracy … and that one isn’t Iraq. To blame the U.S. for the sorry state of public affairs in the region is like blaming conservatives for the actions of a lunatic gunman in Arizona. You can make the argument, but it doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. Nations, just like people, are responsible for their own actions.

The year is still young I can hardly wait to see what February will bring.

SUPER CHINA

I was watching an episode of the Glenn Beck program. He and his guest were talking about how China is fast becoming, or has become, the world’s largest economy. They also were pointing out that China will someday become the premier super power.

Glenn was interviewing two guests, one of them was a businessman that has moved his family to Singapore, the other was a businessman that travels frequently to China to consult with Chinese businesses and with American and international companies taking up business in China. The guest were encouraging Americans to teach their children how to speak and read Mandarin. That reminded me that during the 1980’s, a lot of educators and businesses professionals were saying the same thing about learning Japanese and Spanish (back then Japan was the up and coming economic power).

Not very many of us took that advise, even less Americans had their kids learn how to speak and read those languages. Japan isn’t the economic power that was expected and Mexico and South America aren’t either. China is different. Communists have said that they will kill the capitalist with the very rope they sell us. Isn’t that special.

China learned what the Russians did not. They learned that in order to defeat us they must first economically weaken the west (and United States in particular). Expanding around the globe proved to be way too costly for the Soviet Union … and their communist cradle to grave government became too expensive to maintain. The USSR did not fall because the people revolted .. it fell from it’s own weight..

I’m not sure what to think about these and other business men and women that are putting so much effort into China. I am sure that China’s technological advances would not have come without the help of the Clintons. They have had a cozy relationship with Chinese businessmen since their days in Arkansas. Under their watch Chinese spies even managed to work their way into the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. They also received a lot of other favors that I won’t go into.

China’s communists don’t care about their own people. Most Chinese live a meager existence … they are oppressed, poorly fed and cared for. Personal liberty is not a consideration. With them as the newest great world empire, why would anyone hope for them to be respectful of other human beings from different nations?

China has become rich because they don’t provide essential services to their people and they don’t “spread the wealth”. If they were actual communists, there isn’t any way they could afford to provide for the population as true communism dictates. Why is that? … because they are a dictatorship and there are just too many of them for the country to take care of. If they were to try to take care of them all, they would soon find themselves in the same situation that the Soviet Union did (which is the same situation that Europe and the US is in now) … they would find themselves broke. But since they provide so little to their vast population they have positioned themselves well to impose their will on the rest of the world. How are they doing that? … they are hanging us with the money we borrowed for the rope we sold them.

There you have it.
Pass it along if you like or let me know if I don’t have a clue.

STRANGE BEGINNING

In my last blog I said that 2010 was a strange year, I also said that I thought 2011 could be a strange one, too. And yes, we’ve had a strange beginning in 2011. We’ve seen and heard of some remarkable things. In Egypt, Egyptian Muslims used themselves as human shields to protect Christian Egyptians going to church (this is good). In Arkansas, thousands of birds have mysteriously been dying, and in other parts of the country sea life is turning up dead. In the NLF, the Seattle Seahawks (a team with a losing record) won a playoff game. In Arizona, one of the country’s hotbeds (literally and figuratively), has seen a terrible assassination take place.

I know I said that there would be homicide bombings taking place here in the U.S…. but the year is young. However, the bombing in Egypt on New Years day disturbed me. Remember, I’m hoping that I’m wrong about attacks. The first week of this year has been a strange one. Earlier in the week the former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives (Nancy Pelosi) said that she and the Democrats have been focused on a pay-as-you-go policy regarding spending … has she been drunk or on crack for the last four years? The new Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives has had trouble keeping himself composed. One of them can’t remember what has happened under her watch, the other can’t stop crying. That’s weird.

I wonder what the rest of this month will bring.

There you have it.
Pass it along if you like or let me know if I don’t have a clue.
